Heads-up about a Danger Days fan project

mcrdeviantclub:

On Twitter, there’s a fan claiming they’re working on a “Danger Days movie” with a bunch of teenage cast members. Until recently they were operating (mostly) independently, but in the past few days they’ve started asking for donations, with some followers donating as much as $200 in one drop.

Guys…I get the desire to see a fan-made Danger Days film, but I do NOT recommend donating to this account, for the following reasons:

  1. There’s no way to tell where the money is actually going. They have a GoFundMe page, but they don’t use it–instead, they tell fans to DM them so they can send the money directly to their PayPal account. Right at the start, that’s a red flag.
  2. They’re also expecting people to make props and send them official Killjoy jackets, apparently for free, despite claiming to have big donations and sponsors.
  3. Yesterday they tweeted that they don’t even need the funds, they’re just telling people to donate to “teach people about giving and show that the MCRmy supports each other” (what?) Yeah, that’s another big red flag.
  4. This entire project is being run by a single adult woman who I’ve never seen before and isn’t an “established name” in the fandom.
  5. Like I said before, there’s ZERO accountability for this project. Once you donate, you have no idea where that money is going. If this project falls through, the director could easily pocket the money (and the merchandise) and walk away.

I’m not saying this director is trying to scam people, but so far this project has been VERY shady, and I don’t want to see people lose their money and merchandise over this. If you do decide to donate, consider chipping in a dollar or two instead of dropping $50 on this account. They’ve already claimed that they don’t need the money anyway.
