:/ I disagree. Paradise pier was completly fine and had a recent plussing from DCA’s first makeover. It didn’t need to have anything “done” with it. Also what do you think slapping a pixar skin to the land is going to do with it that will make it “not suck”. Nothing of giant value is being put in there, you are gaining another spinner and some ugly paint jobs. It’s another example of putting characters where they weren’t needed, as paradise pier was beloved and worked for a long time without the need for pixar within it.

Thing is, a lot of that “Beloved and worked” period was the result of the previous injection of animated characters. But they won’t even fully commit to their premise what with the whole “We’re gonna keep the giant Mickey head on the Fun Wheel and just put decals of Pixar characters onto the cars” thing that’s going on.

I groan over Pixar Pier because all they’re doing just putting more lipstick on the pig and the fact that a California Screamin’ overlay is a serious waste of the Incredibles IP.

Just destroy the Pier all together, keep Paradise Bay and World of Color, and start fresh with an entirely different thematic concept. Like Discovery Bay or a Big Hero 6 attraction or an actually cool Incredibles E-Ticket.

No matter how much work they put into it, Pixar Pier is going to suck as a themed area, because Pixar is not a theme.

Let me repeat that for those in the back.

PIXAR IS NOT A THEME.

If you look at the themed areas in Disneyland, and even most of the others in California Adventure, you can see how the theme directly informs everything from the ride types to the building design to the landscaping. How do you create Fantasyland? Build a fairytale village with lots of flower beds and add a beautiful carousel decorated with knights’ shields. How do you make Grizzly Peak? Plant big pine trees, build fake rockwork, and let people go whitewater rafting.

What should a Pixar land look like? Uuuhhhhhhhhhh…

“Pixar Land” is not a recognizable concept that people might want to visit, the way they might want to visit the jungle primeval or a city of the future or even Hollywood. You can get–and they have gotten–a good setting out of some individual Pixar movies, but the studio as a whole doesn’t have a unifying vision…at least, not one that you can walk through.

Pixar Pier is even more nonsensical. What does Pixar have to do with a seaside carnival? At best, precious little. More likely, diddly-squat.
