So Ketterdam is a city on the north eastern shore of Kerch, and Kaz and Jordie are described as being from a small farming town somewhere in the south. Consider that if Kerch were like most countries, speech patterns and accents would vary from region to region, so quite possibly the two brothers spoke a southern rural dialect that is noticeable distinct from what folks up in the city would use. From that, I like to entertain the idea that part of why Kaz was so quiet and antisocial during his early years in the Dregs (among other things) was that he was still working on perfecting his Barrel accent and hiding his old country one
