people saying the car scene was in eighth grade for “shock value” are …….. so dumb. that scene was painful and heartbreaking to watch, yes, but that’s because it’s a reality. i have never seen anything that so accurately addresses the way boys take advantage of younger girls. the way he was joking with her, the way he tried to disguise it all as a game, the way he insisted he was trying to help her, it’s all uncomfortable to watch because that happens ALL the time to young girls. the fact that kayla got home safely and nothing went further proves that bo burnham didn’t put that scene there to break down kayla or cheaply “shock” the audience. he put it there because he’s trying to make an authentic movie about what pre-teen girls go through and no one ever acknowledges that /that scene/ is part of it.
