Fun Disney Fact! Fiona was the first red-headed Disney Princess when she made her debut in 1988, one year before Ariel did in The Little Mermaid (1989)!
Ok so I was looking for historical slang terms for penis (gotta be era-accurate when writing vintage dick jokes) and I came across….something
some linguist compiled a literal timeline of genitalia slang–a cock compendium, if you will–that dates back all the way to the fucking 13th CENTURY. This motherfucker tracked the evolution of erection etymology through 800+ years, because if he doesn’t do it, who else will? Thank you for your service, Johnathon Green.
Some of my favorites include:
Shaft of Delight (1700s)
Womb Sweeper (1980s)
Master John Goodfellow (1890s)
Nimble-Wimble (1650s)
Corporal Love (1930s)
Staff of Life (1880s)
Spindle (1530s)
As good as ever twanged (1670s)
Gaying Instrument (1810s)
Beef Torpedo (1980s)
and last but not least, the first recorded use of the word Schlong, which was in 1865 CE. Tag yourself, I’m Nimble Wimble
And are the lovely ladies feeling left out? not to worry! Johnathon’s got you covered, gals, because he also made one for vaginas. Highlights:
Mrs. Fubb’s Parlor (1820s)
Poontang (1950s)
Spunk Box (1720s)
Ringerangroo (1930s)
Ineffable (1890s)
Itching Jenny (1890s)
Carnal Mantrap (1890s – a busy decade apparently)
Bookbinder’s Wife (1760s)
Rough Malkin (1530s)
Socket (1460s)
and a personal favorite, crinkum-crankum, circa approximately 1670.
Once upon a time I worked in this little burger/coffee/ice cream shop and a lady came in one winter and asked if we had a caramel apple drink and we were like ‘well we have cider’ and she was like ‘no I don’t remember what it’s called but this place made a drink that was chai tea, apple cider, and caramel’ and Breezy offered to try and make something for her but she changed her mind and left so Breezy and I were like ‘alright let’s try this’ because we had chai tea, instant cider mix, a shit ton of caramel, instant hot water from the espresso and too much free time.
And let me tell you it was delightful. It tastes like watching the leaves changing color and dancing in the wind. It tastes like picking out pumpkins and gourds and fresh apples at the farm up north. It tastes like witches and freedom.
I make it every year now and this year I walked in the house on the morning of October first with all the ingredients and shouted ‘FALL DRINK’ and my roommates were like ‘????’ so I made them Fall Drink and now every time they get home from work they’re like ‘Fall Drink pls?????’
Anyway I remember literally nothing else about that woman but I’m very grateful to her.
for anyone wondering about proportions/etc here’s op’s answer from the repiles:
Wind and her 6 year old son have been staying with us the last three days. They moved to Colorado from Alabama after Wind left her boyfriend. Initially they stayed with a family member, but that quickly became dangerous and abusive. Said family member ransacked their belongings, taking mostly his clothes (and his teddy), before throwing them out. That evening Wind met a man who let them stay at his place, but he turned out to be even more dangerous! On their way to Walmart they met us and when we learned what they were going through we insisted they stay with us. We live in a bus and this isn’t ideal, but they are at least safe.
Roy has been spending 80% of his day working with Wind’s son doing math, reading, writing, music, science, art, and (of course) LOTS of playtime. He is currently not enrolled in school and Wind is anxious to get him back in, but she doesn’t even know where they are going to end up living!
Wind is signed up to work where roy and I work and she has an appointment with the human resources place downtown that helps us so much. They should be able to get this amazing family into a home asap.
All four of us are living in the bus now. They take the bed while roy and I have an air mattress on the floor.
They have nothing but two little backpacks. They each have about two sets of clothes, a Bible, and their shoes. Neither of them have socks and he has NO toys. He told me his favourite thing to play with is my deck of playing cards.
You can send Wind money directly to her cashapp ($Lakey28B) or you send money to roy and I (paypal.me/roydieud).
Please leave a note with paypal if you want the money to go to Wind.
Check the notes of this post to stay updated. I’ll add a wishlist for school supplies and winter clothes soon, as well as her own PayPal. I don’t have service on my phone so putting this together is taking a while.
This is everything they have besides the clothes on their backs and the white bag is pretty much just her father’s antique Bible (if you wanna say shit about her having that, you can go ahead and eat shit until you die instead).
I put this together for him out of the things that I have, and he was overjoyed when I gave it to him, but like. Come on. Look at this. This is EVERYTHING he owns in the world that isn’t clothes.
You guys have been keeping gas in our bus all week and food in our bellies. We have enough food for a couple days, but we’re close to running out of gas again.
Wind completed her orientation and her and Roy are keeping one eye on the job list all day for something they can both do.
Wind needs steel toes asap. A cheap pair is about $30, and she can work whenever she wants, as much as she wants, until she can get a permanent job.
We’ve received so much love and encouragement over the last few days, we just need a little bit more material “love” right now.
Thank you thank you thank you all of you (except you, orphanage anon) for the support and kind messages.
If you have any items you want to send us directly, hmu and I’ll give you an address.
“Walt said that I knew about colors he had never heard of before.” -Mary Blair
Mary Blair is an influential artist who, with a few brushstrokes, defined the look and feel of a Disney movie. Her bold color choices and unique art style is instantly recognizable, seen in classics such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and more. Blair also worked on designing park attractions, unquestionably seen in It’s A Small World, which is purely her both in style and concept. She also illustrated many Little Golden Books, such as I Can Fly. There is no doubt that Blair’s stunning style still influences film today.
“The way she painted—in a lot of ways she was still a little girl. Walt was like that… You could see he could relate to children—she was the same way.” -Rolly Crump
Illustration aspirations. I’ve bought many Little Golden Books just for her amazing artwork.
According to traditional Jewish law, decommissioned Torah scrolls are to be either buried in a Jewish cemetery or stored in perpetuity in a genizah, a dedicated synagogue space for out-of-use ritual objects. Damaged scrolls can also be restored and rededicated for ritual use, while those that survived the Nazi era are permitted to be displayed in exhibits dedicated to documenting the Holocaust, as they are, for example, at the Holocaust Museum a few blocks away.
The Torah scrolls at Museum of the Bible are not part of a Holocaust exhibit. Moreover, somewhat strangely, the language used at the museum suggests that they are being rescued not from deterioration, but from their traditional Jewish rites. A placard in the museum accompanying one scroll describes it as having been “saved from being ceremonially buried or placed in a genizah.”
“We have a debt of gratitude owed to the Jewish people,” Green continued, “because they provided us with the Hebrew text and they did it well, and that is the story that the scrolls tell, that they have done it and continue to do it until this day.”
For many Jews, this type of language is unsettling: it colonializes Judaism and its most sacred text, making them into part of a Christian narrative, both historically and theologically. The idea that the Bible came directly in its current form from God and never changed over the millennia is a standard position for some evangelicals, but one that, to most biblical scholars, is deeply problematic.
