the critics saying Tom Hardy is “over-acting” in Venom are just used to superhero movie protagonists being stoic and silent and don’t know what to do with an actor who actually makes his characters express emotions in healthy ways lmao

(mild spoilers ahead) When Eddie’s sad he looks miserable and teary and openly expresses why. He shrieks when he’s startled. He panics when he’s confused and worried. He silently screams when he’s angry and can’t do anything about it. He reacts to the events of the movie in a way that someone might actually respond.

Critics are just so used to machismo in their superhero movies that they don’t know what to do in the absence of it.

point being: Venom was fucking good and the critics are wrong

i still theorize most of what a good chunk of critics hated about venom was he didn’t seem like grittybatmanbanevoice

i am Pretty Damn Sick and not enjoying it. I’ve been fortunate in that i’ve been able to take yesterday and today off of class and focus on healing (I slept for like 14 hours last night) but i have a big presentation tomorrow and an important class on thursday and i can feel this cold moving into my chest and uuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

communication is so damn sexy

busy for the day, but you hit me with a “i love you, but i need to do some work today, so I wont reply for a while” message? mmmm sext!!

gonna be distant for a while because of something personal, but took the time to send me a “dont worry it’s not about you but i need some personal time rn” text? ill be looking at wedding rings, while you get yourself where you need to be!!

basically, you don’t need grand gestures or to be present and available 24/7 to relay to someone that they are wildly important to you… you just need considerate fractions of moments and communication.

In all seriousness I took a death and dying course in college for fun and that’s when I fell in love with, and began to seriously study, spontaneous or “street shrines”. These are the organic, unplanned placements of items when someone is killed, generally, and the community almost descends on a spot. I am fascinated by that interfaith, inter-spirit moment of connection fostered. What drives someone to leave the first item? Who guides them there? What do we, as humans, seek from the leaving of a memorial on a place that now hallowed? And we know it is, to some extent, even if we’re not spirit-workers. We have this human need to bear witness, no matter who we are, and over and over again it manifests as this need to build some space, some monument that says “they were here, and now they aren’t here, and we, collectively, of all faiths and walks of life, strangers to each other, will remember them”

We take comfort in, and protect to some measure, that space we create with tea-light candles and stuffed bears and flowers and it just feels like the Right Thing to Do. We rebuild these spaces when they are torn down by authority and we keep building them up and that’s beautiful

Street shrines are TRULY universal, too. They are largely non-verbal but it’s like we just KNOW what to do, like something moves inside all of us and it doesn’t fucking matter if we can’t understand anyone else standing at the site, it’s just a Knowing. It’s phenomenal

One of my professors specializes in this, she wrote a book called Roadside Crosses in Contemporary Memorial Culture about her fieldwork in Texas.

but… they’re not. Trans is short for “transitioning” which is to say you go from one gender to the other. Non-binary people are not transitioning to another gender. They’re just not moving from one to another.

trans is not and has never been short for transitioning you dumb hoe

trans is short for transgender dumbass

also for those who don’t get it, the creator of the trans flag herself (monica helms, to be exact) has stated verbally, herself, that the white stripe in the flag was for nonbinary individuals + that nonbinary ppl are absolutely trans

if you exclude nonbinary folks and tell us we’re not trans go fuck yourselves

… I mean even if “trans” were short for “transitioning”

wouldn’t it still be accurate to say that nonbinary people have transitioned from their assigned gender identity to a different one? unless they were assigned nonbinary at birth and have always identified as such?

like, that entire argument would be wrong even if its faulty premise were right

i am 5000% in favor of shaming cigarette smokers get that bullshit away from me

But when vegans feel this way about meat y’all hurt 🤗

Somehow. Some way. You brought up veganism. In a discussion about second hand smoke.

what you gonna get? secondhand meat?

I don’t know about other smokers, but if I’m around people I’ll ask if they mind if I smoke by them, and if they say yes I do mind, then i will walk away… If you want to shame me please do cause I need to quit so there’s that…

Lemme help, don’t smoke around other people. No need to ask. Just go away and do so.

basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body.

that’s basically fine.

if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out.

unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.

These words scan with a fantastic degree of confidence considering that together they make no sense at all
